Joyce Watson, the Labour Regional Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales recently wrote to Arriva Trains Wales on behalf of constituents concerned about the possibility of driver only trains operating on the Cambrian Line and the Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno Line.
The reply from Arriva Trains Wales was clear and to the point. It said:
“Please note that Arriva Trains Wales Ltd will not be seeking to introduce Driver Controlled Operations during its franchise term, regardless of any changes to rolling stock that may or may not take place. We have conveyed this reassurance to our trade union partners too.”
Joyce Watson said, “A big sigh of relief was the response throughout Wales to the reply from Arriva Trains Wales to my letter.”

Dim gyrrwr yn unig ar drenau Cymru Medd Arriva wrth Joyce
Yn ddiweddar, ysgrifennodd Joyce Watson, Aelod Llafur Rhanbarthol y Cynulliad dros Ganolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru at swyddog Trenau Arriva Cymru ar ran etholwyr sydd wedi mynegu pryder ynglŷn â’r posibilrwydd o drenau gyrrwr yn unig ar reilffordd Cambria a rheilffordd Blaenau Ffestiniog i Landudno.
Mae ateb Trenau Arriva Cymru yn eglur. Mae’n pwysleisio na fydd trenau gwyrrwr yn unig ddim yn cael ei gyflwyno yn ystod tymor masnachfraint rheilffordd Trenau Arriva Cymru ac hynny heb fod yn ystyriol o oedran y cerbydau. Mae Trenau Arriva Cymru wedi rhoi’r un sicrwydd i’r Undebau Llafur yn ogystal.
Dywedodd Joyce Watson, “Ochenaid o ryddhad oedd ymateb Cymru ben baladr i ateb Trenau Arrica Cymru i’m llythyr.”
