Loss of Theatr Harlech would be devastating to area, says AM

Theatr Harlech plays an integral role in the community and its loss would be ‘devastating’, Assembly Member Joyce Watson has said.
The theatre was not awarded a grant by the Arts Council for Wales and the decision has led to employees being served with redundancy notices.
Questioning the Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones, in the Assembly chamber, Mrs Watson said,
‘Theatr Harlech is a pillar not only of the local community but of the surrounding area. Its importance both in terms of its promotion of the arts and as a major employer in the area cannot be overstated.’
Joyce Watson recently met with staff from Theatr Harlech and has pledged her full support to the campaign to keep it open.
‘When I met with employees at Theatr Harlech I witnessed first-hand the profound impact it has on the community. It provides a wide variety of activities with professionals and amateurs from the community and the surrounding area. It is the cornerstone of the arts in the region.’
