Local credit unions a fair and responsible way of banking, says AM

Credit Unions are ‘fair and socially responsible’, Assembly Member Joyce Watson has said on International Credit Union Day, October 21st.
Joyce Watson, Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, claimed that credit unions offer an alternative to high street banking, which in recent years has put people’s money at risk. Joyce Watson highlighted that credit unions are a profit-sharing and democratically run, meaning that it is purely the members of the union which benefit from its success, rather than bankers in London.
Joyce Watson AM said, ‘Credit Unions provide an excellent opportunity to benefit from low interest rates whilst supporting local people at the same time. It is fair and socially responsible, two characteristics which have been notably absent in banking institutions in London in recent times.
‘One of the most important aspects of a credit union is that it can bring communities together, there is a personal touch with a credit union which does not exist in some other forms of banking.’
