Opponents of plans to close inpatient beds at Cardigan Hospital today delivered a 10,900-signature petition to the Welsh Assembly.
Labour Mid and West AM Joyce Watson, a member of the Assembly’s petitions committee, greeted a delegation of campaigners to receive the petition.
As well as calling for the decision to be overturned, campaigners want the health board to progress its plans for a new health facility in the Cardigan area.
Mrs Watson said:
“I was very happy to receive the petition and have an opportunity to speak to campaigners about the future of health services in the Cardigan area.
“This morning I received a response to a letter I sent Hywel Dda chairman Chris Martin about my own concerns regarding the Cardigan development. He confirmed beds will be ‘re-provided within the community in a variety of care settings’. He also assures me plans for the new health facility will be progressed as soon as possible.
“I look forward to scrutinising those plans and, in the meantime, working with my committee colleagues in considering this petition.”
