Harlech Pool champion Joyce Watson AM will meet local campaigners at 3pm today (Friday 12 November).
The local Labour Assembly Member worked with locals to preserve the pool, and will join them to discuss their next steps now the Harlech Swimming Pool Project has been awarded £300,000 by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The money will fund the renovation of the existing facility and improve the current swimming pool. The funding will also contribute to a new climbing wall, kitchen and cafeteria as well as new windows, lighting and improved access to the building.
Mrs Watson, who lobbied ministers to support the project, said:
“I am delighted to meet campaigners again, now all their hard work has paid off. I am also pleased that Minister Carl Sargeant agreed to plug the gap in this community swimming pool’s funding.
‘The pool plays a fundamental role in the community in Harlech, and this grant was crucial for the project to stay afloat.”
Gwynedd Council wanted the pool to save £160,000 a year, but local people objected and a community company was set up to run the pool instead of the local council.
