First Minister and Joyce congratulate 'fantastic' new Powys Youth Service

Assembly First Minister Carwyn Jones enjoyed his trip to the new Llandrindod Wells Youth Centre so much that he went there twice in two days.
Local Assembly member Joyce Watson AM invited First Minister to join her on a tour of the new community facility last Friday.
They toured the building with Cllr Gwyn Gwillim, Board member with responsibility for Youth Services, with Lynne Griffin, Principal Youth Officer, Paul Rowe, Senior Youth Officer, Katie Lloyd, Senior Area Youth Worker and Jess Hazlewood, Area Youth Worker from Powys Youth Service.
Back in the Assembly in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday they both congratulated Powys Youth Service and everyone involved for all the hard work and effort that has gone into this project.
Mrs Watson said: “This provides a vital service not just to our young people, but to all the people of Llandrindod Wells. I understand that it is the first such facility to open in the county since 1964, and all those involved on the very hard work and effort that has gone into this should be commended.”
The first Minister said: “It is a fabulous building, and I was there on Friday and again on Saturday. You could not keep me away. It is a fantastic example of a wonderful facility for young people and for the entire community. The rooms there are used by the whole community in Llandrindod Wells. It is a building of which the town can be proud
The new £1m single-storey youth centre and scout hall in Llandrindod Wells was completed last December, following an eight-month construction project.
The centre includes two halls with their own entrances, allowing the scouts and the youth club to run at the same time. There is an information technology suite, an activity room, training kitchen and a coffee bar.
Coun Gwyn Gwillim, who is responsible for youth services with Powys council, said:
“This building is not only be used by the town’s youth club and scouts but by a range of organisations who provide youth services that work to meet the needs of young people in Llandrindod Wells and the surrounding area.”

Questions to the First Minister
Joyce Watson: ‘One Wales’ includes a commitment to give all children the opportunity to use leisure facilities, and the Children and Young People Committee’s recent report on safe places in which to play and hang out emphasised the importance of providing children and young people with somewhere in which to enjoy their free time with friends. Will you join me in welcoming the brand new youth centre and scout hall in Llandrindod Wells? I understand that it is the first such facility to open in the county since 1964, and both you and I visited it last Friday. Will you also join me in congratulating Powys youth services, Councillor Gwyn Gwilym, the cabinet member, and all those involved on the very hard work and effort that has gone into this particular project?
The First Minister: It is a fabulous building, and I was there on Friday and again on Saturday. You could not keep me away. It is a fantastic example of a wonderful facility for young people and for the entire community. The rooms there are used by the whole community in Llandrindod Wells. It is a building of which the town can be proud.
