Mid and West AMs clash over ‘sexist’ speech

LABOUR’S Joyce Watson has lodged an official complaint against Neil Hamilton’s ‘sexist’ speech.
During the UKIP Assembly leader’s maiden Senedd speech on Wednesday (18 May), he referred to Lib Dem AM Kirsty Williams and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood as “political concubines” in Carwyn Jones’ “harem”.
Mrs Watson, following the conclusion of the Plenary session, sent an email to the Assembly’s Presiding Officer calling for her fellow Mid and West Wales representative to be sanctioned. She wrote:

“During today’s debate I believe that I heard Neil Hamilton refer to two female Assembly Members as “concubines in Carwyn’s harem”.
“I respectfully ask that you request him to withdraw these remarks as unparliamentarily language.”
Speaking afterwards, Mrs Watson explained:
“Robust debate is one thing, a good and necessary thing, but I will always challenge that sort of sexist, boorish, bully-boy behaviour. He should apologise.”
